Chinese Food Therapy

“Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.” - Hippocrates

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, all foods have specific thermo-properties - some foods are warming, like red meats and the spices cinnamon and nutmeg, and some are cooling, like many raw fruits and vegetables.  Some foods are drying to the body's fluids, such as some beans and legumes, and some are heavier and damp-forming, like dairy products and rich desserts.  Ideally, it is important to eat a diet comprised of all the flavours and energetic states so that the body does not accumulate too much of a certain property. However, when the body is out of balance and there is illness, pain, or discomfort, it is important to be eating foods to support the treatment process and avoiding the ones that may aggravate the condition.

Alexandria offers food and diet therapy in conjunction with acupuncture and herbal medicine treatments.
